(ConservativeUnit.com)- Following the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Friday, the Democrats broke fundraising records in one 24 hour period. According to a report from USA Today, the death of the left-wing judge – a legend for feminists and women’s rights activists – led to some $95 million in donations through the ActBlue fundraising platform.
The number doesn’t take into account funds raised outside of the ActBlue system – and even without it, these are record-setting numbers.
The sudden influx of cash represents the willingness of Democrat supporters and voters to help the party not just in their campaign to get Biden election, but in their push to stop the Republicans nominating and confirming another conservative Supreme Court Justice before the election takes place. This would be the third judge appointed to the highest court in the land by President Donald Trump in his first term alone.
“The liberal-backed ActBlue – a donation-processing site that helps Democratic candidates, committees, and organizations raise money – reported more than $95 million raised from the time Ginsburg’s death was announced until Sunday morning,” the outlet reported.
ActBlue also reported that some $6.3 million was donated in a single hour late on Friday night following the announcement from the Supreme Court about the death of the 87-year-old judge,. On Saturday, a further $70.6 million came in, with more than 1.2 million people donating to Democrat campaigns.
The previous daily record for ActBlue, according to The Hill, was $42 million. And, the previously hourly record was just over $4 million.
The sudden influx wasn’t spontaneous, either. Left-wing activists immediately used the death of Ginsburg as a fundraising strategy, with various organizations encouraging people to donate to campaigns in swing seats. Former officials from the Obama administration pushed for people to donate to 13 Democratic Senate candidates. The campaign, which is known as “Get Mitch or Die Trying” (despite the fact it doesn’t target Mitch McConnell’s seat) took in $30 million in donations.
Now the question for Democrats is how they spend this huge sum of money so late on in the campaign. The Democrats’ ground game in this election is virtually non-existent, at least in comparison to the Trump campaign’s millions of activists knocking on doors and making phone calls. Joe Biden’s campaign has spent record sums on TV ads while doing most of his pre-scripted interviews from his basement.
